The wrinkle reduction treatment is a factional laser that combines fractionated optical energy (ability to see pigment), together with Radio Frequency (RF). The combination of these two energies provides deep heating to the dermis and tissue to resurface and treat wrinkles.
How the IR Fractional Laser Works:
The IR Fractional laser delivers a combination of fractional heat together with RF. The bi-polar (combined energy) wavelengths, is then able to penetrate deep in the dermal layers of the skin, going past the collagen and down into the subcutaneous tissue (deepest level). This heat and energy delivered by the IF Fractional Laser provides the ample amount of thermal heating required to denature (break down) and rebuild new collagen and tissue while keeping the epidermis in tact. In other words, this laser is non-ablative and does not disrupt or harm the superficial layer of the skin.
When the fractionated laser together with RF (the energy that enables the laser to deliver more energy on a deeper basis), penetrates through the dermal layers of the skin and collagen, it is seeking the subcutaneous tissue. Upon stimulation, this tissue begins to “coagulate”, i.e. begins to metabolize old tissue and collagen and replenish with new tissue and collagen. This coagulation promotes the tissue to repair itself from a bottom-up effect, thus, resurfacing from the deepest part of the tissue to the surface layers of the skin. This resurfacing ultimately yields new collagen production, resurfaced wrinkles, and smoother, more youthful skin.
Treatment Protocol and Downtime:
The IR Fractional Laser should be performed every 3-5 weeks.
The IR Fractional laser generally requires a minimum of 5 treatments when static wrinkles are present. If there are no wrinkles present and a client is using the IR Fractional laser for prevention, a series of three treatments is sufficient.
The IR Fractional laser virtually has no downtime. Immediately after the treatment you can expect to see redness in the area being treated. This redness will subside within 30 minutes to one hour post treatment.
How Long Will It Last:
Results will vary per client. For these reasons, we recommend clients have touchup treatments every 6 months to maintain results.
Factors that will reduce the longevity of the results are:
- Sun Exposure
- Lifestyle, i.e. eating habits, drinking, smoking, etc.
- Genetics
- Age
- Gender
Differences between IR Fractional Laser and Skin Tightening Laser
- Skin Tightening only targets the collagen and has a specific wavelength to work on rebuilding the collagen to yield tighter skin.
- IR Fractional laser is oriented toward rebuilding the loss of tissue for wrinkles. The reproduction of collagen is a secondary benefit and therefore, does not provide the ample amount of skin tightening that Refirm yields
*Both IR Fractional Laser and Skin Tightening Laser are treated in "zones".
