Laser Hair Removal FAQ

How are the treatments performed?

The initial consultation: Our laser technologist will advise you on what to expect from laser treatment and will explain the different options available to you, the procedure itself, and its risks and limitations. Test spots may be performed to determine whether your hair will respond favorably to the laser.

The treatment:
During the procedure you’ll feel the lasers gentle light on the skin as the laser is absorbed by the hair follicles. Each pulse of the laser lasts a fraction of a second and treats an area of approximately ½ inch. Our lasers are equipped with a cooling system to decrease skin temperature to preventing burns from the heat generated by the laser.

How long do the treatments take?

The treatment time can vary considerably depending on the size of the area treated, and the particular technique used. A small area such as the upper lip may take only five minutes, while a larger area like the back or legs may take up to one hour.

Since the laser affects only those hairs in the growing stage, and not all hairs will be in this stage at the same time, several treatments will most likely be needed to effectively remove all the hair from one area. Subsequent sessions will be scheduled at least a month apart, when you will probably begin to notice the re-growth of hairs that were previously in the resting stage.

What can I expect afterward?

Following the procedure the area may be red or swollen, as if mildly sunburned. Occasionally, the skin in the treated area becomes slightly crusty, but this reaction should fade within a few days.

Although you can resume your normal activities, you should avoid exposing the treated area to the sun. Clean the area with mild soap and water and do not use any products that may irritate the skin (such as Retin-A or astringents).

You’ll notice hair “growing” in the area within ten days of your treatment. This is actually the damaged hair falling out, rather than re-growth. You may shave these hairs if they bother you, but do not wax, tweeze, or bleach hairs between sessions.

If you have a dark complexion, you may notice a temporary lightening of the skin in the area. Although most patients are satisfied with the results of laser hair removal, it is impossible to predict the success of the treatment for each individual. The resiliency of hair follicles in different parts of the body and in different individuals can vary widely. Multiple treatments are usually needed to reduce the amount of unwanted hair permanently.

Laser Vein Removal FAQ

How does Leg & Facial Vein Treatment with elos™ LV Applicator work?

The LV Applicator combines safe and effective levels of laser and radiofrequency (electric current) energies to remove leg veins and other unwanted vessels. Both laser and radiofrequency have been used separately for decades in medicine and surgery, but the LV exclusively combines light and electric energy for ideal treatment outcomes – improve leg veins and vascular lesions with a very low risk of side effects.

What results can one expect from the LV Applicator treatment?

The LV can improve unsightly leg veins, facial spider veins and other unwanted vascular lesions. Spider veins and larger blue-green vessels on legs will gradually fade and can be treated until patient satisfaction has been reached.

How many treatments are required?

Most patients will have between 1-3 treatments. Some vessels may require more than 3 treatment sessions.

How often are treatments done?

Treatment sessions are typically 6-8 weeks apart. Smaller spider veins may be treated every 4 weeks.

How is LV Applicator treatment tolerated by the patient?

The sensation may be described as a “hot pinch”. Patients tolerate treatment well by use of either cooling the skin during treatment and/or use of a topical anesthetic cream that numbs the skin.

Is treatment with the LV Applicator safe?

ANY medical laser procedure has risk of side effects such as superficial blistering, crusting, and pigmentary changes in the skin. These risks are rare and usually quickly resolved. The LV incorporates several technological advances that focus on patient safety to minimize these risks and provide greater satisfaction. The laser handpiece is also cooled for skin protection and comfort during the procedure.

Who should be treated with the LV Applicator?

Anyone with unwanted leg veins or vascular lesions may be a candidate for treatment with the LV. Removal of vascular lesions and veins with elos™ technology (laser and radio frequency) is a safe and effective alternative for patients who want non-invasive approach to vascular treatment. LV is the clear choice for patients who do not like needles or who have had adverse reaction to solutions that are injected into the vein during Sclerotherapy.
