BriteSmile National Survey Finds Senator John Edwards with the Most Winning Smile on the Presidential Ticket, First Lady Laura Bush Leads Among Wives

Will the Best Grin Win? Findings Indicate it Will be Kerry-Edwards by a Smile

WALNUT CREEK, Calif., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Leading political polls have the race for the White House exceptionally close, but according to a new national survey, a clear majority (58%) of Americans say that Kerry- Edwards have the edge when it comes to which ticket would bring white smiles to the White House this fall. Only 33% felt that the Bush-Cheney team had the better smiles.

According to the poll, Senator John Edwards could be the Democrats secret weapon -- 58% felt that he had the best grin out of all the candidates. Of the candidate's wives, First Lady Laura Bush clearly helps the Republicans, leading with 56%.

Vice President Dick Cheney is behind the pack with only 4% of Americans thinking he has the best smile on either ticket. He is also the candidate Americans think is most in need of a teeth whitening (26%). As a couple, the Cheney's don't fare very well, with Second Lady Lynne Cheney coming in behind the other wives with only 4% of Americans identifying hers as the best smile.

BriteSmile, one of the leading teeth whitening companies in the world, conducted the nationwide telephone survey of 1,002 adults across different demographic groups and party affiliations. The margin of error for the survey results is +/- 3.0 %.

The study is based on a random-digit dialing (RDD) probability sample of all telephone households in the country. This method ensures that every telephone household had an equal chance of participating in the survey. The margin of error for this survey is +/-3.0% at the 95% level of confidence.
